Music Specialist and Program Director

Abbie Ehorn is the music specialist and program director for the  Evergreen Union School District in Cottonwood, CA.   Evergreen has three campuses for approximately 1,200 students.  The elementary campus serves preschool through 4th grade, middle school serves 5th through 8th grade, and Bend school is a small four classroom campus serving grades K through 8th.  Evergreen has a strong commitment to the arts, and it is our belief that every child has a right to a comprehensive education in music.  Music is part of a core curriculum and compelling research supports that music can provide positive, significant , and lasting benefits to students.  Mrs. Ehorn's approach to music education is characterized by joyful and active involvement.  Most importantly, it is our hope that students gain the confidence and joy to be life-long music makers!  To find out more about Abbie, click HERE!

Evergreen Elementary
All 600 students in grades preschool through fourth grade receive 30 minutes of general music once a week.  Building upon playfulness and exposure to a rich musical environment, students learn to sing, dance, play classroom instruments (including recorder in 3rd grade), read simple notation, and curriculum integration using music to enhance other areas of study including math, language arts,and  social studies.  Each grade level has a performance opportunity during our Spring Music Festival! 
Evergreen Middle School
 Students in grades fifth through 8th have the opportunity to take music as part of their elective choice. Each trimester, a specific musical elective is offered.  Fall trimester music elective is World Music Drumming.  Using our amazing collection of hand drums, tubanos, d'jembes, congas, and frame drums, students learn rhythmic ensembles from around the world.  Many performance opportunities are available for this drumming group.  Guitar is offered for the winter trimester.  Students play beautiful Baby Taylor acoustic guitars and learn chords, strumming, melodies, and different styles of guitar music are taught.  Spring trimester elective is singing and musical theater.  The culminating performance is a musical that is performed for the elementary school.

Bend School
Bend is a rural country school with four classrooms and grades kindergarten through 8th.  All students at Bend receive music once a week. General music, recorders, drumming, dance, and guitar all all provided as part of a joyful musical education.  The entire school participates in a December music performance.
